I am upgrading a client’s site from 2.5.3 to 2.6.1 and it seems to successfully update to 2.6.0 and then starts upgrading to 2.6.1 but refreshes to a blank screen instead.

The URL in the title bar of the browser is http://site.com/system/index.php?C=wizard&M=do_update&agree=yes&language=english&ajax_progress=yes

When I delete/rename the installer folder and log into the admin I get the following error:

Your ExpressionEngine installation’s version (2.6.0) is not consistent with the reported version (2.6.1). Please update your installation of ExpressionEngine again.

I have followed the steps in the upgrade documentation to the letter. I put the site offline, cleared the cache, copied over all 2.6.1 files, replaced the config, template, and third party files, verified file permissions, and ran the updater.

If I try to run the updater again, I just get the blank screen again.

I am running the website locally using MAMP and their actual domain name, testing locally before performing the upgrade on their actual website.

Any ideas on why the update is failing?

I set the system/index.php debug setting to 1 and refreshed the blank page and get the following error:

    A PHP Error was encountered

    Severity: Notice

Message: Use of undefined constant AJAX_REQUEST - assumed ‘AJAX_REQUEST’

    Filename: core/EE_Exceptions.php

    Line Number: 60
    A PHP Error was encountered

    Severity: Notice

Message: Trying to get property of non-object

    Filename: core/EE_Exceptions.php

    Line Number: 62

Fatal error: Call to a member function send_ajax_response() on a non-object in /Users/Username/Sites/SiteName/system/expressionengine/core/EE_Exceptions.php on line 62

    Does that help at all?
