All entries list instead of single entries

I recently shifted from using the entry_id in my entries to the url_title, for mainly SEO reasons, and now when I am on an index page that shows a list of current entries, such as http://www.jtnews.net/index.php?/viewpoints/C29/ with the C29 being the child category, instead of just the single article that’s supposed to load, every article loads.
Here’s the style of link I’m using to get to the item page: < a href=“index.php?/viewpoints/item/{url_title}/{segment_2}”>{title}< /a>

Thoughts on how to get around this? dynamic=off, which I thought might be a good solution, doesn’t do anything.
I’m using EE 1.6.8, btw, with hopes to update to 2.x very soon.

Well, it looks to me like when your last segment in the link to your item page is {segment_2}, which would be C29, then it seems that you’d get a full listing of C29, instead of just the item. And you want dynamic=“on” because you need to have the weblog tag pick up which single item to show (which should be the last segment) dynamically from the url.

If you need the category information in your output, you might try a link like the following, with dynamic=“on”

    <a >{segment_2} - {title}< /a>
