Template Editor will close on Submit, not save changes

Randomly I will be working on a template in the Template Editor and when I select Submit to update my changes, the browser will redirect me to the Template Manager and my changes are discarded.  I can use the browser’s Back button to grab my code but in order to get the template updated I need to navigate back to the Template Manager home, open the template, paste in my code, and then save for it to be updated.
I am not using Template files saved locally on my web server.

Is this a bug or just an annoyance that has somehow plagued just me?

    This is EE Core 2.6.1

I’ve been having the same issue… as well as my client when he’s adding entries. It’s extremely frustrating and my client is looking at me for answers. This is my first time hosting through Bluehost, wasn’t sure if that was the issue or not.

Glad to hear I’m not the only one.

Are you using Core or a Standard license?  Seems like it’s affecting both…

Hi. I’m noticing this too, but it’s intermittent. Also when editing entries. It doesn’t seem to happen if I edit and submit fairly quickly. I changed to ‘Cookies only’ in ‘Security and Session Preferences’ and after that it seems to only happen if I’m editing a template or entry for quite a long time before submitting.

I tried disabling extensions via config.php but it still happened, so I’ve re-enabled extensions.

Yes. I have two websites I’m currently using EE with and I’m having the same issue on both sites. They’re both completely different setups of the same version of EE.

At first I thought it was the web host, but one is on Bluehost, the other Network Solutions.

Then I thought maybe it was the position of the EE system folder, but one is in the root, the other in a sub-folder.

I have a new client that wants to do live sports blog-reporting. This issue has made me afraid to use EE because I’d hate for them to write an article, then hit submit only to lose everything they’ve written.

As of now, I told them they may have to write in a separate application and copy/paste into EE. They expressed that wasn’t an ideal solution for them because they’ll be entering multiple stats which takes time in the first place, and they could be using that copy/paste time on the next review.

Hey guys- I’ve entered a bug report here- if you can add any extra info you can think of there, it’ll keep things consolidate.  You may also want to subscribe there as well.  I’m a little vague as to the actual bug, but it definitely looks like this could use some developer eyeballs.

I’m thinking some of this sounds like it’s failing the secure forms check.  If that happens, it redirects you to the homepage.  thejame- you’re actually getting redirected to the template manager page?  And this only happens when editing templates?  That I THINK sounds different than what the others are experiencing.

And- if it’s happening a lot, any way you can test MerryK’s switch to cookies only for the backend- does that seem in play?

The more info you can think of, the better.  If there is any message in the message area, be sure to let us know.

I’m going to try to move the gist of this to the bug tracker, to keep it consolidated for the devs.  But I’ll stay subscribed both spots.

Thanks Robin, but this is still occurring - cookie switch doesn’t do anything.

Replied over in the bug tracker, thejame.  But for everyone else- getting dumped out anywhere OTHER than the homepage strikes me as a distinct issue.  So either here or in bug tracker, be sure to let me know where you’re getting redirected to.

I am being redirected to the homepage only.  This usually happens with templates, but has happened else where in the control panel.  I have a different post that can be closed as it relates to this post.  My redirect happens on submit also.  EE v2.6.1 - Build Date: 20130506
