Why do all custom field short names need to be unique, regardless of channel? I’ve had a poke around in the database, and it looks like there’s enough in there (e.g. group_id) to prevent conflicts. I can think of a lot of reasons why this is a good idea from a web development point of view—as well as a few reasons why it would be useful to have a consistently named custom field across all channels—but I’m curious as to the technical reasons.
This isn’t a complaint, or a feature request by the way; I’m just interested in the answer!
