Ran into a little issue when we moved our development build (LAMP based) to our live server (Windows IIS based). We can no longer upload any files, we get the following message:

Thumbnail could not be created for the image. Please make sure the thumbnail directory is writable.

I’ve checked and the /images/uploads folder is set to 777 as well as all folders that are children of this folder and I’m now totally out of ideas, do windows servers treat permissions differently, so I need to do anything else?

My paths are setup like so: E:/Domains/domain.com/wwwroot/images/uploads/

Only other thought was that maybe imagemagic or whatever is used to resize images with EE isn’t installed on the windows server? Could this be a possibility? and if so what would need installing?

    Cheers!

try change your forward slashes to back slashes on your path :

    E:/Domains/domain.com/wwwroot/images/uploads/

    to

    E:\Domains\domain.com\wwwroot\images\uploads\

    or :

    E:\Domains\domain.com\wwwroot\images/uploads/

and you can always check your server by Server Wizard here: http://ellislab.com/expressionengine/user-guide/installation/requirements.html

Cheers, changing to backslashes seems to be the solution, grrrr I hate working on Windows servers!
