The template selected when saving a page entry and selecting a template from the pages tab.
I am not sure if there is a configuration bug that I am missing or if this is a bug.
I don’t receive a warning message or alert of any kind.
It allows me to submit the change but when viewing the page it does not use the selected template and when I edit the entry again it shows the default home page template again.

Okay so this is solved.
The template selection does not save if you don’t fill out the pages URI field above. This is kind of weird from a UI perspective and not very intuitive.
It also makes me wonder about duplicate content issues for SEO. If i have a piece of content that can be found as:
pages/my-page ( set in the url title )
and
/my-other-page ( set in the Pages Tab Pages URI field )
This ends up being 2 unique URLs with near identical content, depending on your template.
