Dreamhost: A third-party add-on is calling $this->load->library('security'), which is deprecated...?

    I’m getting this message:

“A third-party add-on is calling $this->load->library(‘security’), which is deprecated as the CI_Security class has been moved to Core, so it is always loaded.”

Also, some of my menu options now look like nav_file_manager and nav_new_developer_log. The standard less cryptic labels are MIA.

I presume there’s been a server / PHP upgrade at DreamHost. What can ya do? The question is…how do I fix this? Can I fix this?

You need to update the third-party add-ons with the latest version. As develop log message states that an add-on calling the “security” library which has been moved to Core so this library always been loaded and no need for this line of code.

If you can track the add-on which is using this line of code you can remove this line yourself.
I am not sure due to which add-on you are getting this developer log message.

    Thanks Bhashkar.

Yes, I saw that. But - and pardon me for not saying so earlier -

    1) I’m using on one 3rd party (read: didn’t come with EE) add-on: Low’s Seg2Cat.

    2) I’m using that add-on on other sites with no issues.

    3) The site with the problem is 2.4.0 (I think).

    4) The sites without the problem are 2.4.x+.

If I need to updated EE, so be it. But then this would appear to be a core bug, yes? Or perhaps the site has been exploited and there’s something else I need to do.

    Thanks again. Any additional thoughts?

Normally the original issue with EE and the add-on is outside our scope of support, but if you suspect the site has been exploited in any way, please feel free to reach us directly with any details here: http://bit.ly/PfpbbY or here: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and our Abuse department can scan your account to be safe.

    Thanks for sharing much details.

As the Develop Log feature was added into EE version 2.4.0 so you can see this log notice within Control Panel in same version or higher.

I have used Low Seg2Cat in my several projects almost for all version of 2.x but didn’t face such an issue of developer log.

Could you please share the other third party add-ons (plugins, extensions, modules) which you are using? It would be easy for me to track the third party add-on which is causing this notice if possible.

Off the top of my head Seg2Cat is all I’ve added on this install.

Me thinks it’s 2.4.0 issue. None the less, someone should have a look as to why the error is popping up and why some the nav options are now a bit wonky.

Or do I have to pay to have EL fix bugs? ;(

I think, it should be better if you can update the EE version first before paying to EL to fix these bugs.

I hope, this issue will be resolved.

I don’t think i would update my EE to 2.5.3 just yet as I’ve seen a lot worse bugs than this. If you can get a copy of 2.5.2 do update as it’s more stable. Just my $0.02 worth.

For the error, you just need to update the addons. It’s not an EE bug and the error is pretty helpful, an addon is loading a class that is already loaded by default. It’s more a notice than anything else so not related to a compromise. I know from personal experience that some Solspace addons used to cause this notice.

For the navigation issue, do upgrade your system as this is exactly what EllisLab would do anyway as a first step towards resolution and then see if the problem still exists.
