My website has performed without issue for three years. Mysteriously, the other day it was not viewable. Instead, this error message appears instead of http://www.brucefrankel.net :

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<’ in /home/bfrankel/brucefrankel.net/index.php on line 125

I could not figure out what to do. My designer has retired. Another professional spent time yesterday working on it but reported that he could not find the error at line 125.

    I’m using:

    ExpressionEngine 1.6.8 - © Copyright 2003 - 2009 - EllisLab, Inc.
Script executed in 0.3631 seconds   23 SQL queries used
    Build:  20091201

I last published on Nov. 17, 2012. It was post #133. I believe I deleted line (post)  #125 because it was an unnecessary duplicate.

Thank you in advance for your help. Bruce

    Hi Bruce,

Can you post the contents of your home page please? Include the HTML and EE code.

    Thank you,

    Mike

    Hi Bruce,

Could you check the index.php that is in your root and see what is on line 125? That file should only have 124 lines, so I suspect it has been altered in some way (perhaps malware).

    Thanks, Wouter Verloet and Mike.

I’m such a troglodyte that I don’t know where to find the HTML or EE code. I’m afraid I’m going to have to pay Ellis Lab for a month of support to fix this. I can’t waste more time. Thank you for your suggestions and thought. Bruce
