I am wondering if it is possible to search within entries and also pdf content??. Please can someone show me how this can be achieved.

Search in entries - yes. The docs have information about using the EE search feature.
Search in PDFs - not possible using EE’s search. EE’s search only searches the EE database. For PDF search you’ll need to look elsewhere.
