    Hey all,

I currently have EE v2.5.3 - Build Date: 20120911 Installed on an Ubuntu 12.04.1 VM.  I believe my question might be simple.  Because this server is running on a VM on my development laptop, if I go somewhere off of my network, DHCP will give the VM a different IP address.  I can still log-in to my EE CP however I noticed that all of the JS and style sheets are still trying to be pulled from the old IP address of the machine (the one I had when I installed EE).  I’ve looked through Apache configs, PHP configs as well as items inside of the expressionengine folder.  The one spot I did update was cp_url in config.php.

I also cleared cache on my browser in case it was somehow responsible for my problems.  When you install EE, does it store the IP/Hostname of your install some place in the database?  I combed through the user guide and Wiki to no avail.

    Thanks for any help!

    Hey there Talis,

Welcome to the ExpressionEngine forums! Glad to have you.

Can you check your paths and your settings under Admin—>General Configuration. Make sure you are not using an IP address.

    Cheers,

    Hi Shane,

That’s precisely what the problem was.  I’m back home now and things look normal again.  I’m not sure if that link presents itself when there’s no stylesheets/js.  Is there a table in the db where that is contained in the event that I lock myself out again?  I’m going to try and setup something so that this wont be a problem in the future but if I jump to some other public wifi while developing, it’ll probably happen again.

    Hi Talis,

Instead of an IP address, you can use the domain “localhost” in ExpressionEngine’s Control Panel.

    Cheers,
