Safecracker File Directory Choice?

I am working with the following scenario:

I have set up a “resource” site for a client, with various resources (mainly PDF documents) divided into their relevant directories.

In setting up the front-end of things for them to be able to add resources, I’ve realised that I need to change the file fieldtype to safecracker file fieldtype.

My dilemma is that this seems to remove the option of selecting an upload directory as part of the upload process, with a specific upload directory needing to be chosen within the actual field settings.

Is there any way to give the user the option to choose the upload directory when using safecracker file fieldtype?

Thanks for any insight into this

    Hello crossfade,

You are correct, SC File Field does not allow selection of directory, it is tied to the upload destination assigned to the Channel Field.

Were you seeing this before? Or are you referring to the Control Panel?

    Thank you,

The situation is that with it set as field type “file”, the destination can be set as “All”, which is how it was set up originally.

So far I have been using the normal CP publish page to add entries/files.

I’ve now set up a safecracker form on the front end for the client to be able to do it, and realised that I need to change the field from being a normal “file” fieldtype to a safecracker file fieldtype for it to work with SC.

But when setting this up, it doesn’t allow for the “all” option, forcing the choice of one of the directories.

I’m also wondering how this will effect the current entries that have the attached files in the variety of directories.

    Hey there crossfade,

You are correct, on the front end you are only able to use one directory. This will not effect the other entries. It would be nice to bring that selection to the front end, but at this time it’s not available.

Is there anything else I can do to help?

    Cheers,
