I recently started working for an organization that is utilizing the express engine system.  No one at the company knows how to do anything on this system and the person that did is no longer working here, and unwilling to assist us.

I’ve sent several emails with no luck or response.  I don’t know anything about which licenses they’ve purchased or anything, all I know is that they’ve been using this system for the past few years now. I just need basic help with this thing.  I’m not sure if every user uses it the way my organization does, but I just need to figure out how to modify what files are linked to certain posts, and how to modify a resource library with all of our courses. (FILE ATTACHED)

This is extremely frustrating coming in and having no clue how to support this system and no one in this office that even has the slightest clue how to use this.

If I am unable to do what they need me to do, they have no need for me, thus no job.  Please help or direct me somewhere that can help me.

(for instance in my screen grab all the contents of Lesson 2 are incorrect and need to be changed to different materials. I tried to select NO on publishing but it’s still showing even as a basic user, not superadmin.)

Hi GrowingGreat. Think everyones been there at one time or another having to clean up someone else’s mess 😊. Don’t know how much help this is but..

“I don’t know anything about which licenses they’ve purchased or anything” Why do you need to know which licenses have been purchased? I’m pretty sure all add-ons, including the ExpressionEngine CMS itself have a liftetime license so if you want to know what your license is for the CMS go Admin > General Configuration and view it there. For add-ons, extensions, etc go to Modules > Add-ons and then the the one you want to know what the license is it should be there if it has one or is needed.

“but I just need to figure out how to modify what files are linked to certain posts, and how to modify a resource library with all of our courses” When you say what files are linked to certain posts are you saying that for certain entries (posts) you have files e.g. pdf’s, .docx, etc that are downloadable and you can not update that entry (post) to new content? How are you trying to update the entry?

“for instance in my screen grab all the contents of Lesson 2 are incorrect and need to be changed to different materials. I tried to select NO on publishing but it’s still showing even as a basic user, not superadmin.” What do you mean “tried to select NO”, can you send a screenshot of that area of the control panel?

Sorry for asking questions with your questions! Thanks.

Sorry I hadn’t realized I got a response.  At this point I just need to figure out a way to export all the members and their data to a CSV file to import into a new system I’ve built.  The developers that built this site prior to my arrival appears to have just hacked it together to “get it up and running”.  As a result I’ve been left holding the bag with tons of holes in it.

Needless to say the staff here at ExpressionEngine has been really nice but with the developer not cooperating, they will not help without an official “license” or proof thereof. So once I get the members exported I will have to say “Se la vie”.
