I know the floor is 4.1+ but what version of PHP would be considered the ceiling for EE1.6.9? Should I just look at hosts that provide 4.x hosting for this client, or are there 5.x versions that will run it up to a certain point?

Looking at the change log, EE 1.6.9 should be compatible up to PHP 5.3.  I work for a company that is running it on PHP 5.3.2 just fine.  However, EE 1.x will have a few errors showing up in PHP 5.4.

    Hi John,

As Paul notes (hi Paul! Thanks!), ExpressionEngine 1.6.8 added PHP 5.3 compatibility in the initial release. You should be a-ok to run 1.6.9 on any host with PHP 5.3.x

Let us know if you run into any trouble.

    Cheers.
