Is there a way to move a custom channel field and the data stored in channel entries to a different channel? I have a large number of fields and corresponding data in one channel that I’d like to move to another channel. I tried changing the group_id in the exp_channel_fields table of the database via phpMyAdmin, but it just made the field invisible in both channels.

    Thanks in advance.

Quick update, I found two add-ons that look interesting, MX Tool Box and Field Editor, but I’d like to see if there is a way to do this in native EE. If not, please let me know if either of these add-ons are preferred.

Hrm- no, there’s not a native way.  Unfortunately, I don’t have experience with any addons that do it.  If neither of those look really good?  I think you just need to update channel_titles, channel_data and comments.  And then recount stats.  But you’d want good backups and really go through and test afterward if you do that.  But you’ll want to do that regardless which option you take!
