"The upload path does not appear to be valid..." but it is!

    Here’s an odd one. I have 3 upload directories working fine. Just added another but I get the"upload path does not appear to be valid” error when trying to upload to it via File Manager. Permissions set to 775 (tried 777 too).

    Path and URL are fine. Only difference from previous 3 upload directories are that they sit within an /assets/uploads/ folder, and this one is in the root (/technical-specs/). The path is perfect (/home/mydomain/public_html/technical-specs/) and it’s not permissions. Anything else I can check?

    Interestingly, if I FTP a file into technical-spec I can see Number of Files as 1 in Synchronize Directory, and it syncs with no errors. Then if I go to File Manager > Filter by Directory > Technical Specs I get “You have no files uploaded to this directory.”

    Hi Ian,

    What version of ExpressionEngine are you using?

    Would we be able to login for a look?

    Cheers,

    Hi Dan. It’s EE2.3.1. For various reasons, I’d rather not give you a login just yet if that’s ok. Appreciate that makes it difficult to debug, but could you suggest any next steps for me?

    Thanks buddy.

    Hi Ian,

    No worries! One thing I would like to try is kind of a whim - but that’s the nature of troubleshooting…

    Can you add a folder depth and test? So that you have:

    /home/mydomain/public_html/parent/technical-specs/

    I would like to rule out any effect being in the web-root might be having, since that is the variable with this versus your other locations.

    Are you getting any other errors with this at all? JavaScript, PHP etc?

    Cheers,

    Just a thought here but is that folder included in your htaccess file (if you use one)?

    Whenever I use folders in the root I have to add the folders name into the piped list in my htaccess rewrite command:

    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    # Removes index.php
    RewriteCond $1 !\.(gif|jpe?g|png|css|js|xml)$ [NC]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php/$1 [L]
    # If 404s, "No Input File" or every URL returns the same thing
    # make it /index.php?/$1 above (add the question mark)
    </IfModule>

    you will see on line 4 that I added a reference to a css folder and a js folder in mine…

    Thanks for the responses guys.

    Dan – I tried the subfolder, but same issue. Also, it seems I can’t create a new subfolder in the original /assets/uploads directory.

    Scott – I do have .htaccess and tried your suggestion but no luck I’m afraid.

    I think there’s something else going on here, to do with the server itself. There is another dev who’s worked on this, and they may have put something in place which is preventing EE from recognizing these new dirs. I’ll investigate and post any resolution here.

    Thanks again.

    Okay, this particular server is managed by the client’s in-house developer. Although I could see the “technical-specs” folder I created in the root, apparently he couldn’t! He went ahead and created the folder himself and everything works fine now. Not come across that before. Bizarre.

    Thnx for the support all the same guys.
