    Hi Guys,

Having issues logging into our CP (MSM install) getting redirected to:

    /admin/index.php?S=0&D=cp&C=login&M=authenticate

and with debug on recieveing the following error:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 28317616 bytes) in /var/www/vhosts/grand-cafe.co.uk/httpdocs/core/codeigniter/system/database/drivers/mysql/mysql_utility.php on line 199

This has not been triggered by an upgrade, just started happening, i believe my colleague updated some time zone settings but other that that no CP tweaks, the most recent change was the addition of a new site (5 days ago) but no files were updated as we still have sites available.

Any thoughts or clues of where to start looking would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks,

    Sam

    Hi Sam,

    Hmmmm. Interesting.

I would check your system logs first. That error, I am reasonably sure, will be in the system logs with more detail. You can also check to see what the system resources look like. Hard limit vs soft limit.

    Please let me know.

    Cheers,

    Hi Shane,

    Thanks for your feedback.

Sorry for my ignorance, im not great when it comes to logs / server stuff, by ‘system’ are you referring to EE or my server?

I have checked the various EE CP logs (Tools -> Logs) and the access/error logs (for this domain) on my server and cant find any reference to this error.

Is there somewhere else I should be looking for these logs?

Can you provide a little more info on what you mean by ‘Hard limit vs soft limit’ and where i might find the info relating to it?

I have bumped the memory_limit up to 384M, which has got me back into the EE CP, aware that this is not a long term solution, as that feels a little high 😊 ?

    Many thanks,

    Sam

NB) I did find this error in the CP Developer Log, but no info on which addon it is actually referring to? Could this be anything to do with it?

The system has detected an add-on that is using outdated code that may stop working or cause issues with the system. What does this mean?
Deprecated function login_form() called in on line 0.

    Hi Sam,

Sorry about that. Using some admin speak.

System logs are going to be something you need access to the command line for. Linux would be /var/log/messages and it would be nice to see apache logs too, /var/log/apache or httpd/access and error. For windows, I have no idea where the logs are, but your hosting provider or SysAdmin should be able to help.

Lifting the limit made it work? Hmmm. So the logs will tell us more of the story as well.

Before we go much further, can you please update all of your Add-Ons? That error is an Add-On complaining. 😊 I know, why does it not say which one? Ugh, I wish it did, but it’s good practice to make sure all of your Add-Ons are up to date.

Once you do that, and if the system logs are not telling, I can log in and look around, see if anything jumps out to me. Sound good?

    Cheers,

    Shane,

Ok great, is there somewhere i can upload / send the logs too?

Ive had a scan but can spot anything referencing the issue, also I dont have an apache log located at /var/log/apache, we are running plesk, so they could be located somewhere else?

I will investigate and get my add-ons all updated tonight, although we should be running the latest on most. Need to update EE at some point but its always a bit of a task on this MSM site as its beast and one of our first sites, so our methods have changes a fair bit since this one! 😊

    Thanks,

    Sam

Just re read your post, assuming by ‘/var/log/apache or httpd/access and error’ you have already answered the location of the apache logs you wanted? 😊

    Hey Sam,

    Right, those are the logs.

It would actually be much more beneficial to review those with your hosting provider. There will be a lot more benefit there because they will be able to do real time logging and troubleshooting, especially on a shared host.

How did updating the Add-Ons go? Did you clear the developer log and see if that message comes back?

    Please let me know!

    Cheers,
