I am just starting out using git and expressionengine. I think I have a pretty good grasp on how to upgrade files from one version to the next, but I am curious how often a database is changed during an upgrade.

Also, if anyone has any pointers on how to upgrade a database that’d be great.

    thanks

    Hello yankeyhotel,

    Thank you for your question.

It really depends on which update your are talking about. Some updates do not touch the DB, others make major changes. You can look through the update files to determine which changes will be made.

Is there a reason you would be updating the DB manually? You could just open up MySQL on the command line and run the code from the update files.

    I hope this helps.

    Cheers,
