    Hi,
I am new to Expression Engine and am wanting to embed a vimeo movie into the clients site.

How would i do this? I already have the ability to add vimeo movies into the site, but just using the vimeo ID code makes the video show up as landscape and my client requires portrait vimeo (which can only be done using an embed code)

How would i go about doing this, as ideally i want the video to show up on the site where all the media is displayed.

    Thanks

    Hi Stefan,

That depends on how your EE channels are setup. Do you have a channel that’s specific for your media videos or are the videos embedded with the page content using a WYSIWYG editor?

We currently have a channel field for videos. If i paste the code into the description it does not show up on the left side of the webpage where i want it.

    Hi Stefan,

So just to clarify, your channel is for videos only or you have a field in your content channel that you add the video code to?

A few things you should check:

    1) Check your channel entries tag for the limit parameter to make sure it’s getting included.
    2) Check the orderby parameter in your channel entries tag to see which field you are ordering your entries by.
    3) Check the channel entry in the CP to make sure you didn’t change the entry date to something in the future or you added an expiry date and the entry has expired.

If the video files are the same every time, and you already aim to have the video as a custom field in your channel, I might suggest having a look at DevDemon’s Channel Videos add-on.  It allows you to use the add-on’s tag pair to automatically insert the video embed code with the size defined - I haven’t tried it, but I would suspect it would accept portrait dimensions as well.  Then in terms of placement within the page, you would just wrap the video tag pair with a containing DIV to which you apply whatever styling you need, including positioning.  Channel Videos supports YouTube and Vimeo embeds, with a variety of parameters for each, and saves your client having to think about cutting and pasting embed code, along with manipulating the dimensions of the embed.

    Hope that helps.
