    I’m getting the error below:

    Parse Error
    Unable to parse XML.

When I try to import an XML file via the Member Import Utility.

I converted a CSV file to an XML file via the Member Import Utility also, and it downloaded the file i’m trying to import.

But when I import it, I just get this error. Surely EE should of recognised any problems with the data BEFORE it exported it?

I’ve checked if there are any invalid characters and any commas that shouldn’t be there and all seems fine. Any ideas what could be going wrong? It would be good if it told me the exact Parse Error…

    Hey there Shape.,

Thanks so much for your question!

I agree, the error messaging here could be a lot better.

I would guess that there are some email addresses as usernames, which is the most common reason that I have seen this process fail.

Can you check that and let me know?

    Thank you,

    Hi Shane,

I managed to fix this thanks to LeaLea (http://www.lealea.net) and her SlideShare:

    http://www.slideshare.net/lealea/ee-member-management (Particularly Page 35)

The problem was the blank spaces and invalid characters in email addresses

    Hey Shape.,

Oh man! Nice catch and really nice find. Adding that to my bag o’ tricks. Thanks!

Is there anything else I can help with, or rather you care to enlighten me with? 😊

    Cheers,

I’m not sure if it was EE’s delimiter export that caused email addresses to go weird, or it was OpenOffice, but it converted @ symbols to +A#56+ or something similar. So I just made sure I changed them and removed all & signs and commas and speech marks and it imported fine!

Other than that, all is good! 😊
