This question is loosely related to a resolved thread.

Hi - I’m trying to import member data from EE1.6.8 to EE2.5.2. I use the handy script available on the Wiki, and plug this into the XML converter. Then I plug the result of that into the import utility.

All the dates are messed up.

The XML converter doesn’t seem to apply any kind of attempt at time format conversion. In fact, all the hyphens in the SQL timestamp where converted to - entities which made the XML importer fall over. I replaced them manually.

Can this be made to work properly? Even if you don’t want to go down the route of trying to parse the many and varied time formats that are out there in the wild, could you at least let us know what format you want in the userguide entry for the Members XML Format?

    Hello Castlegate IT,

You may need to take the output and format it a bit before going to the import utility. The Wiki script is not really a support way of getting the data out, more like a good starting point.

Are you talking about the join date or the birth date when you mention adding some directions to the XML Member XML Format guide?

Thanks for your feedback, looking forward to hearing back from you.

    Cheers,

    Do they use different formats??

Just a line in there telling us what format you want these dates in for a successful import would make having these fields so much more worthwhile! That page doesn’t really describe the format in enough detail to be useful, it just peters out into a long list of unexplained fieldnames. Which would be fine if that XML converter worked!

I know writing documentation is tiresome, but in the long run it might save time dealing with the likes of me in the forum!

    Thanks,
    Rich

    Hey Castlegate IT,

No, I was referring to the over all process.

We are actually big into documentation and I will take your feedback directly to the team. We are always looking to improve our documentation and add videos and tutorials to enhance. You may not see the changes for a bit, our release cycle on the documentation is separate from product releases.

Is there anything else I can help with?

    Thank you,
