I’m trying to display the contents of a member profile field, but the html code for an unordered list which is in the field is appearing on the page. . Here’s an example.

I have the text formatting set to XHTML (but I’ve tried None and Auto br as well, but neither of them seem to solve the problem).

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Frank

    Hi Frank,

I see the issue you are describing. I need to get some history and context though.

What version of ExpressionEngine are you using here? Is this a fresh install or an update? Is this something that was working before and has stopped? If so, what changes have been made between then and now?

I look forward to your reply!

    Cheers,

Hi Dan. Thanks for your response.

The site is running on v2.5.2 - Build Date: 20120606. It’s an update from an earlier version (off the top of my head, I can’t remember what the previous version was - it was 2 something - but I had let my updates lag for a little bit, so it might have been 2.2.?).

It is working fine in the site’s current layout (you’ll see the same bio in the right-hand column of that layout - the url I linked to in the first post is a redesign we’re working on). I don’t believe it’s ever worked correctly in the new layout, but I wasn’t looking at it carefully until now (I was working on other aspects).

That probably doesn’t help a whole lot. 😊

    Thanks again.

    Hi Frank,

Can you check the setting on the category group? Go to Admin > Channel Administration > Categories: Edit Category Group > “Category field HTML formatting”

    Cheers

Hi Dan. I have two category groups. Both have their field formatting set to allow all HTML.

One thing I didn’t mention in my original post which occurs to me now. I’m using the Profile:Edit module to create channel entries which match member profiles. I’m doing that so I can return members in regular search results. I have not yet matched all of the member fields to the channel fields (I was planning on doing that when I implemented the search functionality). But I’m not displaying the channel entry field on these pages - I’m still just displaying the member field. Hope that makes sense.

    Thanks,
    Frank

    Hi Frank,

    Can you share your template?

I’d like to see how you are binging all the bits together. Maybe we can hash out a solution is I can see the big picture!

Thanks Dan. The template has too many characters in it to put into one post. I tried to put it in a text file and attach it, but when I did that, I got an error message from the forum that said the file could not be written to disk.

Can I send the file to you via PM?

    Hello FrankJohnson,

In general the team does not enable Private Messages.

Can you use pastie to show us the code?

    Thank you,

Unfortunately, no. I just sent myself an email from my profile, and it worked fine. I receive lots of email every day, so sometimes things get lost. But I searched through my gmail account for “EllisLab” and “member profile” and didn’t find a recent private email. Also looked in my spam folder and there wasn’t anything there.
