Hi Everyone,

What is the /system/expressionengine/hooks/ directory all about?  I have been asked to evaluate a site where the previous developers put some php files in there.

Is there something special about it?  Is it intended for some specific purpose?  I can’t figure out why they put files there instead of in the third_party directory and have not found any documentation on the topic.

Hi Joe,

The hooks folder is in reference to CodeIgniter. If there are files in there, they may be doing some customizations to achieve certain functionality.

The hooks page in the CodeIgniter documentation explains this more. On a fresh install of ExpressionEngine, this hooks folder is empty, but if there are files in their now, it appears some customizations have been made.
