Here’s a dilemma for you. I cannot find any solution to this - but quite a few requests from other members of the community in a round about way - if anyone has a solution I would be most grateful. The site I am working on currently is running on 1.7.3 but will be updated to 2 later this year and I’d love to have this feature included in the EE2 version.
I want to create a homepage gallery that uses images assigned to another entry in another channel - it will also draw in their links and titles - current version is here.
The client needs a control panel page or channel where they can assign images from a case study channel into the homepage gallery channel.
Currently the images are stored in a P&T matrix and there’s a checkbox that assigns the image to the homepage but that is proving not only hard to manage (i.e. remember which case study is active or not) but it is also bombing out memory-wise when there are more than 5 or 6 images in the array. I am happy to change this to something like Channel Images.
I would ideally like to add a homepage channel where the client can pick up, as in Playa, images assigned to the case studies entries and then drop them onto the homepage. So a thumbnail preview would be good as well.
I know I can get around this and create a separate channel and ask the client to upload separate images directly to it but this seems to be repeating code and content - totally against the COPE ethos championed by Kevin Smith on your blog recently.
I am sure this is quite a frequently required feature as so many clients like to show off their best work on their homepages. It seems like quite an elegant way of doing it too.
