I’m working on a site recently upgraded from EE1.  I have a large category group that is showing sort orders that were almost alphabetical, but not quite (a few cats were misplaced).  The sort order in the category management area was correctly alphabetical.  I tried re-saving the category sort as alphabetical. It is still correct in the category management area, but in the publish screen it’s worse than before.  I’m not sure what order it’s displaying in.

Could you post here a screenshot of the category views: one of the management screen and the other of the publish screen? If I can see some examples and see how they’re out of order, I can attempt to replicate it on my end.

There’s a problem in EE 2.5.2 build 20120606 in /controllers/cp/admin_content.php::_reorder_cats_alphabetically()

When we indicate that we want the categories sorted alphabetically and submit the form to save that preference, the exp_categories.cat_order column in the DB is not updated with each category’s appropriate order value. All values are 1. This translates into a problem on the front end with exp:channel:categories where the blocks of categories are not properly ordering on the page.
