I am having a similar problem, on 2 sites actually.

I used Datagrab to import the file into the FIle Field (not safecracker) and it does import the file into the file field. But the image’s thumbnail does not appear, as one would expect it to. There is a ‘broken image’ placeholder, and the filedir & filename are listed below it.

Things get weird after that… once I open one of these entries, and I then hit the submit button, I get a red error warning by the file field that says:

“You do not have access to the directory specified for this field” and the text that had the file name is gone. Basically the associated file is gone at that point.

I am doing this as a super admin. we checked the permission on the file upload directory. it’s fine.

What to do? Can you help us out with this issue?

    We are using:
    ExpressionEngine v2.5.2 - Build Date: 20120606
    datagrab 1.7.5

Thanks! We can really use some attention here today if you can manage it.

    Hello roryrabbitfield,

Unfortunately, this is not going to work. It’s not intended for files, it’s intended for data in a database.

One way it might, maybe, kind of sorta work is if the files are already where they need to be. Then run a sync to populate the fields in the database. This will generate the thumbnails. But then the file_id’s will not match. That may or may not mess things up, like I said, datagrab is not really meant to move files.

    Does that make sense?

    Thank you,
