I am trying to make sure I can use EE for this project.

The basic idea is to link 2 or more members. Basically, connect 2 people… Something like match.com.

The reason to use EE, well, basically the whole user management interface with the ability to add plugins such as http://www.membrr.com/ for membership management.

Any ideas? Should I use EE? or should I start from scratch?

Can you elaborate on what you mean by connect? By match.com, do you mean connecting people based on pre-selected fields that are common between both users?

Exactly!... That’s precisely the idea… Perhaps age / age range, geo-location, gender prefs, smoking, drinking, skin color or whatever fields my customer can come up with

Seems like a very complicated system. It may take an array of pieces to get this working.

Perhaps take a look at the features offered by these add-ons:
    http://www.solspace.com/software/detail/friends
    http://www.solspace.com/software/detail/user/

Also, for geo-location, I highly recommend Google Maps for EE by Objective HTML:

For searching by age, age range, location, you can probably utilize either EE’s native search module, or use a third-party add-on, for which there are many options on http://devot-ee.com/

That Friends from Solspace looks great… probably that’s the way to go… But, I’m still hesitating if start from scratch… I’ll take a deep look at it.. thanks for your help Aaren…
