I’m pleased to announce the release of Video Player 3 add-on for ExpressionEngine 2 ! This fieldtype lets you connect to YouTube & Vimeo, search videos, retrieve your videos and favorites right from the Control Panel.

    Search videos online
Video Player lets you search videos from YouTube and Vimeo, right from the ExpressionEngine Control panel. Preview and play the videos you’re interested in, and once you’ve made your choice, click “selected” to use the video in your entry.
You can easily switch between the results coming from YouTube and the ones coming from Vimeo.

    Connect your account
Video Player for ExpressionEngine lets you connect to your YouTube or Vimeo account. Once connected to the api, it lets you retrieve the videos you have uploaded, or the ones that you set as favorite.
A “set as favorite” button has also been added so you can favorite videos without leaving the control panel.

    Fieldtype
Video Player is a fieldtype which means that you will be able to attach a video field to your channel entries.
Compatible with Matrix, you can make the video field repeatable in an entry
Field tags let you access video meta data such as title, description, thumbnails and more.

    Meta data & Thumbnails
Access the meta data video from your template tags, Video Player tags let you display details about video : title, thumbnail, description, duration, play count, and more… See the documentation for the full list of supported meta data.

    HTML5 & Mobile ready
Video Player plays nice with HTML5 & mobile devices like the iPad, iPhone & iPod Touch. But actually, you don’t care ! It’s handled automatically by the universal iframe embeds provided by YouTube and Vimeo. They play HTML5 and Flash fallback when needed.

    Fullscreen
Video previews were so small in Video Player that we decided to build an half-fullscreen mode in Video Player 3. When previewing a video, click this button in order to make the video take the full size of the lightbox.
The player’s built-in full screen mode remains if you want the video to take your whole screen.

Video Player has been replaced by Dukt Videos since January 2013

Can you confirm if the browse feature will work with a Vimeo Pro account with “private” videos?

Hello Nick, and thanks for your interest !

I confirm that the browser is working Vimeo private videos. Keep in mind that it won’t override Vimeo Privacy settings : on the front-end for example, a password protected video will still require a valid password in order to be seen.

Can you confirm specifically that it works with Vimeo Pro videos that are marked as private? I had read there were some differences in the API’s ability to interact with Vimeo’s standard and pro accounts.
