I logged into Expression Engine 2.5.2 and was doing work within the control panel. I left the computer for something I needed to do and when I came back there was a message at the top of the window that said my time had timed out and I should log back in to not lose any data. So, I used the fields that were there and logged in, only to be taken back to the main login screen. So, any data I had entered was lost.

It would seem to me that by providing a username and password that I would have been logged in and able to just continue working. But it didn’t work that way.

Is this a bug? Is this the way it’s supposed to work?

Did you review your CP settings:  Admin ‣ Security and Privacy ‣ Security and Sessions

You can set cookies only for admin users, which has reduced timing out for me.

I don’t have a problem with the time for the time out. My problem is that when it DOES time out that the fields to enter username and password don’t seem to let me use them because the page will jump automatically after entering that information to the MAIN login page and my work is then lost. So, I’m not trying to change the time out time, but to see why I can’t utilize the name and password fields given.

When you submit your username and password, are you sung the return key on the keyboard or clicking the login button on the Control Panel?

Both Shane and I tried to replicate your experience. Neither of us had the login fail.

What OS and web browser are you using to access the Control Panel?
