I’ve experienced this a few times before, but this time I really need to translate a few error-messages for form submissions.

I’ve duplicated the “english” folder in the language folder and renamed it “norsk” (Norwegian). I then selected “norsk” in Admin > General Configuration. Any changes I make either through the translation utility in the CP, OR in the file itself doesn’t show up anywhere…

As soon as I switch back to “english”, and make changes in the files, it works, although when I use the translation utility, nothing changes.

Are there any other settings I need to adjust to make this work? Anybody else had this issue with syncing?

As for now, I’m translating the “english” files in a text editor, but I’d really like to have a dedicated folder for all my translations…

PS: Running EE 2.5.2 - Build Date: 20120606.

    Hi atle,

I’m sorry for the frustration with the translation utility.

I can explain how the utility works, it’s not very intuitive!

First, make sure that /system/expressionengine/translations is writable and set with 777 permissions.

Then, you make your translations in the translation utility and they are saved to the translations folder.

Create a folder named for the language of the translation and move the file in /system/expressionengine/translations to this new language folder.

Then, place that folder in /system/expressionengine/language/

You should now be able to set your translation in the Control Panel by selecting it in Admin->General Configuration

Let me know if you have any questions!

    Cheers,

Hi Dan, thanks for the reply, that sure cleared things up for me. I should have checked the permissions, that one was obvious…

    Hi Atle,

Is there anything else I can assist you with?

    Cheers!
