Updated a site from 2.1.1 to 2.5 - all good.

The site used pending to hold new members until their payment ws processed, now in 2.5 we can no longer set “Pending” as a Default Member Group.

We are running “no activation required” but that shouldn’t really matter. Tried unlocking/settings etc – all done as Admin and still can’t access that group.

We have just sent the update live as it’s not something you’d normally see but has some heavy repercussions.

Cannot find anything clear in the bug tracker, here or the doc’s.

Anyone able to chime in with thoughts?

PS. Logged in as sysadmin, replicated on local install. Banned + Guest dont show as options

    Hi Cheif,

Can you give me a little more insight into your setup?

Where do you need to set the group preference? What are you using to manage payment?

Is this a completely manual process, or are you using Simple Commerce?

I can confirm, in 2.5.2 that only Member and Banned are available as choices in Members->Preferences

I look forward to your reply!

    Cheers,

Trying to choose it under Members > Preferences

Default Member Group Assigned to New Members

We’ve created a few other member types but the only one not to show up is “Pending” and the one the join template uses to allow/disallow access {member_group=="4"}.

Membership payment is outside the scope of the site and one payment has been made, admins set them to “full member”.

I’m doing all this as sysadmin. Tried altering all options for the member group but it’s not available from the Preferences page :(

    Hi Chief,

Indeed, I confirmed, only Member and Banned should be available with the activation settings you are using.

Pending is a reserved group used for self-activation via email.

What you can do is create a copy of the Pending group and then assign the Members to that group until approval.

    Cheers,

What activation setting do I need to use so that Guests can be set as Default Member Group?

    Best wishes

    Hey Lee,

What activation setting do I need to use so that Guests can be set as Default Member Group?

I would recommend against that. The Guest group is a special group in ExpressionEngine. You can make a new group based on the Guest group and assign your members to that after registration/activation.
