Hi,
EE version 2.2.2

Issue:
In publish layout category tab lists category group as per their ID order for e.g. One to Five. We have five category groups each with long list of categories. Group 1 and 3 has fixed number of categories whereas group 2, 4 and 5 category list keep increasing. Issue we are having is when author has to select a category from Group 3 they have to scroll through all above group list.

Question:
How to change the category group order? So we can have Group 1 and 3 on top and after that group 2, 4 and 5.
OR
Is it possible to create a tab in publish layout for each category group? I tried but didn’t work.

Any solution, suggestions or different approach to display category group in publish layout will be appreciated.

Thank you for posting your question here on the ExpressionEngine forums.

Good question.

When you are in the publish page, click on the categories tab at the bottom there should be an edit button, upon click there you should be taken to the edit page where you can arrange the categories.

Does that make sense?

‘Edit’ categories will change order for categories within given group. My question is for CATEGORY GROUP.

We have five Category group and each group with 5 to 50 categories and we are keep adding new categories to CatGroup2,4 and 5. I want to know if there is a way where I can move CatGroup3 to second position?

Below is the category list structure on my category tab

I am sorry I did not get that straight the first time.

I am not aware of a way to do this, but it would make a great Feature Request.

You can also ask this in the Community Help Forum or I can move this over there to see if someone has been able to make this happen through other (read non-supported) means.

Just came across this ‘gotcha’ myself.

There’s already a feature request here.

A quick workaround to this issue would be for EllisLab to change the category group sort order on the Publish Page to by category group name, rather than ID. At least we can then amend our category group names to get them in the order we’d like (and in any case, it makes much more sense to sort these alphabetically by name rather than a meaningless ID).
