Today i decided to update a website from 1.7.2 to 1.7.3.

The updating process seemed to go smooth. I saw the familiar delete update.php page and thought i was done.

When i tried to look at the system i just got a blank page. I was curious if the site was blank as well so i renamed the temporary index.php (which was an offline template) offline.html and put the old index.php file back up.

This also gave me nothing but a blank screen.
Via FTP i put the old system folder back which brought the website back to live.
I decided to give it another go. Re-upload the system folder. Do the update for the second time. Everything everything.

    Blank. Screen.

I searched the forum, decided to write this post. Decided to download 1.7.3 again, just to be sure that the files were correct.

The third time it all turned blank.

I don’t really have an idea what’s going on. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi ntr1,

I’m sorry for the trouble you’ve had updating ExpressionEngine!

Are you able to login to the Control Panel at all, or is the entire site blank?

Can you open up index.php and set error_reporting() to:

    error_reporting(1);

That should let us see any PHP errors that are keeping EE from rendering.

I look forward to your reply!

    Cheers,

    Hi Dan,

I know I’m not the OP, but I’m actually having the same problem. And changing error_reporting(0); to error_reporting(1); still produces a simple white screen of death, with no errors generated that I can see anywhere…

    Looking forward to your reply,
    PJ

Thanks Dan and PJ, i was on php 4.4 and upgraded to 5.

Everything works - as it should. 😊

Before upgrading i tried PJ’s solution. This gave me a working site, but regex errors in the CP.
So i decided to upgrade to php 5.
