We have upgraded to 2.5.1 and have been getting this error on occasion.

Unable to locate your config file (expressionengine/config/config.php)

It doesn’t happen all the time, maybe 1 in 10 times when navigating through the admin and maybe 1 in 50 when on the front end of the site.

Anyone had this & know how to fix it. It’s no fun when you have created a whole post to publish and lose it all when that error message comes up.

    Hey Lachlan,

I am sorry to hear you are running into this problem.

As a part of the upgrade, did you clear your ExpressionEngine cache?

In your ExpressionEngine Control Panel, go to Tools > Data > Clear Caching. Select All Caches and click Submit.

    Please let me know.

    Cheers,

    Hi Shane,

    Thanks for your reply.

I have cleared all caches and started bouncing around the admin and unfortunately i got the error message on about the 10th page i loaded. It is completely random where it happens, not one specific page in the admin. i.e jumping to low variables, or the edit section, or just going back to the CP homepage.

Any other ideas how to fix it?

    Hey Lachlan,

You might give this Add-On a try. This will make checking all of your paths much easier.

    What do you think?

    Cheers,

Hi Shane, thanks for that, i have installed it but I don’t think that is the issue because when i get the error I can simply refresh the page and it will load the page I want.

I am guessing that there is an issue between the CMS server and the DB server as we run them on separate servers.

Still open to any ideas as this is getting pretty critical on a live site.

    Hey Lachlan,

This sounds like a caching issue or a path issue. That Add-On - did you check all your paths to make sure they were all correct and that things like an extra slash. The randomness of this is so odd.

I may need to login and take a look.

    Cheers,

    Hey Guys,

Were you able to resolve this issue? I’m having the exact same problem after a 2.5.1 upgrade.

Nope no luck on this end, still having the same issue. My only fix for the front end of the site is to use Static Page Caching (by Solspace) on my site as that prevents it touching the DB. Still get the error message randomly when using the admin.

Wish i had an answer for this :(

    Hey GREOnlineDevelopment,

Did you find a solution on your end? Still no luck with mine, becoming really concerned about it.

Are you running your DB on a different server or the same server?

  • #11 / Jun 19, 2012 9:03am

We disabled modsecurity (which has been giving us problems since launch) and restarted apache. Haven’t seen the problem since. Might have been the restart that alleviated the problem and not disabling modsecurity, because we can reenable it now and not reproduce the issue.

So in other words, it’s fixed, but I’m not sure why?

We do have a separate DB server.

Thanks Shane, just got your email, as mentioned in my last post we got it all sorted with a server & db server reboot.

Will let you know if we come across it again.

    Thanks,

    Lachlan
