    Hey,

I am working on a new install of 2.5.2 but using some directories that already had files in them. When I went to synchronize the directories for the first time a bunch of files not all of the files showed up. So i looked to see what the common thread might be and they had .JPG instead of lowercase .jpg as the extension. I renamed all files to full lowercase and reuploaded to the directory. This meant there was some duplicates as in Walter.JPG and walter.jpg but since FTP appears to be case sensitive they were fine to go up. Resyncronizing the files ended up with a really wierd behaviour of now the files named Walter.JPG were recognized but the lowercase were not. I still have no idea what is going on here or if it is finding all the files or not.

Is file manager case sensitive? Is it just picking up the first it encounters.

Maybe not a question anyone can answer but just trying to figure out the best approach here to make sure I dont have orphaned images as I migrate an old sites content over.

    Hi Phil,

My question for you is, how many files we talking about?

I have recommended before that “mass synchs” be done in batches. If you are looking at a couple thousand files, that’s what I would recommend.

It might be best to normalize your names, all lowercase for example. Empty the File Manager. Empty the FTP directory, and upload the files in batches of a 50 or 100 at a time, then synch, then batch again.

    Make sense?

The Synch operation may be overwhelmed with a large number of files.

    Cheers,

Yes that makes sense and is more or less what I had to do. Dealing with an existing site still using these directories while the new one is built though so I have had to duplicate but starting from scratch with all lowercase seemed to do the trick. Good to know about the numbers one directory in particular which was causing alot of grief was very large so that makes sense. Thanks for the tips.
