    Two points that need clarification.
    the present Updating from a Previous Version of ExpressionEngine  instructions mention :

    “Once the Update Wizard is finished, remove the following folder from your server:
    system/installer/”

    But one doesn’t need the installer for update to latest version of ExpressionEngine 2 do we??

    BUT IF it is needed  there is no mention of having to upload that directory at the beginning of the files to upload.

    “Using an FTP program such as WS_FTP, SmartFTP, Transmit or Fetch, replace the following files and folders on your server with their new versions:

    admin.php
    index.php
    system/
    themes/ “

    Very Confusing instructions

    Secondly. If one restores the previous CONFIG.PHP file from earlier instructions   it has the pervious version # in it and can cause errors.
    $config[‘app_version’] = ‘240’;

    ??

    Yes, you need the installer folder to update to the latest version of EE.  It means upload those files and folders including subfolders which installer is a subfolder of system.  Secondly, the installer will write the new version number into the config.php file during the install process.

    Sorry for the false alarm. I had forgotten to upload the Installer Folder…. this in spite of having used EE since day one.
    Colour me embarrassed.
