    Hi,

I’m running 3 sites with EE2.5 and the last version of the MSM. My systen folder is above the root of the main domain and is hosted on a VPS server.

Yesterday all sites went down and after a few calls to support they got them back online. Today one of the sites has started giving the following errors:

Warning: realpath(): open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/PATH/TO/SYSTEM/FOLDER/) is not within the allowed path(s): (/var/www/vhosts/evaparadis.com/httpdocs/:/tmp/) in /var/www/vhosts/DOMAIN-NAME.COM/httpdocs/index.php on line 125

Warning: is_dir(): open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/PATH/TO/SYSTEM/FOLDER) is not within the allowed path(s): (/var/www/vhosts/DOMAIN-NAME.COM/httpdocs/:/tmp/) in /var/www/vhosts/DOMAIN-NAME.COMm/httpdocs/index.php on line 134 Your system folder path does not appear to be set correctly. Please open the following file and correct this: index.php

The other two sites are up and running but when I try to login from the contro panel I can’t move beyond the form… no errors even if I try with the wrong details.

I didn’t change anything on the server in the last couple of days and my hosting provider is saying that they can’t help anymore and can’t find out what happened.

I’ve searched the forums and tried a few things but nothing seems to work…

    Any help would be welcome,

    Many thanks,

    Juan

I’ve been working on this with the support team of my hosting provider and we are not getting any open_basedir restrictions warnings any more, we have also discarded a possible PHP or Apache configuration error because the problem seems to affect the index.php file for one domain only.

I still can’t login to the control panel on any of the domains so I guess there is something wrong with my EE installation but is really weird because all was working juts fine and now is not…

If anyone has an idea, it would be greatly appreciated…

    Thanks,

    Juan

    Hey mediavilla,

I am sorry to hear you are running into this problem.

There is a bit going on here.

So the errors for the open_basedir went away. Were they suppressed or was the limitation removed?

Did all this start after the upgrade? Did your hosting provider make any changes to your server?

Please let me know and we can go from there.

    Cheers,

    Hi Shane,

When I look at phpinfo I see open_basedir has no value so I’d say that the limitation was removed.

The problem didn’t start after the upgrade and my hosting provider didn’t make any changes as fas as I know.

I will be working on this today to get it sorted so any help would be more than welcome.

    Thanks a lot,

    Juan

    Hi again,

I’ve made some progress following what you said on this thread: http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/216012/#999673

Now I can login with Firefox but not with Safari or Chrome.

I can see websites 1 & 3 but number 2 is showing a blank page (no errors unless I use Chrome, which gives me a “Server error” page).

I’ve noticed that I can’t switch between sites using the MSM dropdown on the top right corner so maybe that’s somehow related.

Not sure if I should update to 2.5.1 or try to get this site working first… any suggestions on that?

    Thank you,

    Juan

Hi, sorry about the continuos updates but hopefully this could help someone else at some point… this is what I’ve done:

1.- After login in I checked the logs and when tried to access the “View Throttle Log” page I got an error saying “Table ‘...exp_throttle’ is marked as crashed and should be repaired blah blah blah….”

2.- I went to “SQL Managager/Manage Database Tables” and selected that table for repair.

That fixed the issue, the site is now up and running but I’m wondering why that happened in the first place…

On the other hand, I’m still unable to login with Chrome or Safari, I wouldn’t care but my clients do.

    Any ideas to fix that?

    Thanks a bunch,

    Juan

    Hello Juan,

I am not sure how the tables got into a state where they need to be repaired, but it does happen from time to time.

Can you give me the version of the browsers that you are using?

Can you also tell me what the final version of EE and MSM are that you ended up settling on?

    Thank you,

    Hi Shane,

    Chrome Version 19.0.1084.53
    Safari Version 5.1.3 (7534.53.10)
Firefox Version 12.0 (I can login with this one)

    ExpressionEngine v2.5.0 - Build Date: 20120507
Multiple Site Manager Version: 2.1.2 Build: 20120123

Do you think that I should optimize and repair all the tables just in case?

What about upgrading EE to v2.5.2?

    Thanks again,

    Juan

    Hi,

Sorry it took me so long to find the time to do this. I tried to run the update to 2.5.2 and got this error:

    A Database Error Occurred
    Error Number: 1060

    Duplicate column name ‘can_search’

ALTER TABLE exp_member_groups ADD COLUMN can_search char(1) NOT NULL default ‘n’

    Filename: updates/ud_009.php

    Line Number: 112

Any ideas about how to fix this?

    Many thanks again,

    Juan

    Hey mediavilla,

It sounds like you have run into some issues left over from a failed update.

Can you follow this guide and run your update again? Pay special attention to the fact that you need to drop the tables to avoid this error.

Please let me know how it goes.

    Cheers,
