    Hi there,

    Are there any known issues with setting up a 2nd site on Rackspace using MSM? The main site is hosted with another hosting company.

    Most of our previous setups with MSM have been setting up multiple sites within a single server environment (cloud or dedicated), and just wanted to make sure.

    Thanks!

    Hi ejaedesign,

    Thank you for your question!

    One of the requirements for MSM is that the sites be located on the same server.

    In your instance, you’ll need a separate license of ExpressionEngine, or consolidate the sites to the same host.

    Let me know if you have any questions!

    Cheers!

    Hi Dan,

    If the client purchase a separate license, is it technically possible to:

    * Host 1: Site 1 (main installation)
    * Host 2: Site 2 & Site 3

    And have control over sites 2 & 3 by logging into the CP at site 1?

    Thanks!

    Hi Dan,

    Would you be able to take a look at the questions I posed above? It’d be great if I can get back to the client with a firm yes or a no on the possibility of a multi-server MSM hosting.

    Thanks!

    I remember trying to set up something similar a while back. I don’t think it’s possible - all sites must be on the same server.

    Hey All,

    Yes, MSM is bound to one server. The main install and all the MSM sites must be on one server.

    Case in point, open_basedir restrictions break MSM for the same reason. Site index,php file needs LOCAL file access to the main installs system folder.

    Does that help?

    Cheers,

    It does - thanks Shane & Manoj!

    We’re going to host both sites on the same Rackspace server—thought perhaps there was another way out, but no problem either way.

    Much appreciated 😊
