I’m trying to run an update following the instructions here: http://ellislab.com/expressionengine/user-guide/installation/update.html

The system folder on our site is renamed from “system” to another name. Can I just copy all the new “system” folders and files into the renamed system directory or is another step required?

    Thank you.

Yes, you can just copy things into the renamed folder. No further steps required!

A better way of doing it would be to rename your renamed folder (hah) so you have a backup in case things go wrong.

    So, say you have:

    my_renamed_system_folder

    I would rename that to:

    my_renamed_system_folder_backup

And then rename the “system” folder you just downloaded from EE to:

    my_renamed_system_folder

Then, copy your third party files from your backup folder into the newly downloaded system folder. The reason I recommend taking these extra steps is so that you can roll back to your previous files if the upgrade doesn’t work out.

I hope that makes sense. Let me know if not 😉
