Now that the Cookie Consent module is available for download, I wanted to take a closer look at how it can be used to comply with laws derived from the European Union’s Privacy Directive with regard to cookies.

Read on for a general discussion of the legal issues and a new ‘How to’ video on using the module to address them.

Thanks Robin that was very useful! I haven’t got around to using the Cookie module yet but that’s a must view for anyone implementing it.

Is it possible to amend the return url when user activates (or deactivates) cookie consent? I want to track the % of people that actually clicked it - since my Google Analytics is based on cookie, I can’t track the initial url with predefined query. The url now looks like this

    http://www.domain.com/?ACT=57&RET;=

now I would like the RET landing page to have a query such as “?cookie=accepted” so after clicking instead of going to

    http://www.domain.com/

    user will be redirected to

http://www.domain.com/?cookie=accepted (or in other case http://www.domain.com/?cookie=rejected). That has to work for all pages, so if someone is on a certain page, the query will have to be added to that custom url too . :( please help!

Will this be getting implemented on the ExpressionEngine site at all?

I only ask as it’s my understanding (could be wrong as EU laws are at times very difficult to fully grasp) that any site serving content to the EU has to undergo the law.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

The ICO have updated the guideline which implies “Implied consent”.

You could read the story on the ICO site but there’s an error getting to the blog entry (something to do with cookies -lol), even accepting cookies results in a 503 error 😊

Still, you can read baout it at

I don’t suppose there might be a possibility of getting this to run under EE 1 ? I appreciate that EE2 is better and all that, but I have several version 1 sites running and can’t find the time to upgrade. :red:

Happy to fiddle with the module myself if you have any tips….
    😊

    Hi

Is there a similar add-on for EE1?  We are upgrading to EE2 but it could be a while until that’s ready.

    thanks

The module would have to be completely re-written for EE1.  EE1 and EE2 are completely different apps under the hood, EE2 being based on CodeIgniter and EE1 not.
