    Hello,
I’m looking at developing multi-language capabilities for an existing site, and the 1st alternative language version will be in Mandarin. Is there anything I should be aware of in terms of EE’s acceptance or 2 byte characters? I know at some point EE 1.X stripped these characters out and I was wondering if this is still the case?

    Cheers,
    Emily

Ah just found this EE podcast about multi language. http://ee-podcast.com/episodes/multi-language-sites-part-deux I was searching for “2 byte” but they’re using the term multibyte which is why I didn’t find it.

They seem to be saying EE 2 is fine because it uses a Unicode database, though you need to make sure you selected Unicode if you are migrating to a new server.

    Hi Emily,

Indeed, ExpressionEngine is fully the world traveler now!

The database in EE 2 is UTF-8, so multibyte character sets get treated properly.

Is there anything else I can assist you with?

    Cheers,
