Can't access Global Variables in subdomain MSM site, get 403 error

Running EE 2.3.1 and on my mobile site (m.mysite.com) set up with MSM, I have normal superadmin access to the second site, but I get 403 errors when I try to save Global Variables. I thought it was a Low Variables thing, but it’s not - when I just try to work with the usual Global Variables interface, it doesn’t work.

This problem only arises when I go to save them.

Any idea where to begin with this one? This is such a random problem.

I’m in production, and just need something to work at the moment, but I’m having no luck using early-loading variables either using config.php. Are those variables supposed to apply across all sites in an MSM set up?

    Thanks

    Hello Rob,

I am sorry to hear you are running into this problem.

Are you using an .htaccess file for anything?

Getting a Forbidden seems to indicate a permissions issue.

Would you be able to enable debugging and see if anything looks off when you navigate to that page and when you try and save a global variable?

What if you edit an existing variable?

    Please let me know.

    Cheers,
