I’m running the Discussion Forums inside EE templates. Everything works great except when posting a form that returns an error message, the resulting page returns a {forums} tag on an empty page.

If I run the forums via the trigger word it works as expected.

Running EE 2.4.0 and Discussion Forums module 3.1.7

    Hey Maheradmin,

I am sorry to hear you are running into this problem.

What do you have as as your return page? Is that a template that is setup correctly to display errors and the forum tag?

Are you using SafeCracker? If so are these errors inline or other?

What kind of error causes this? Are we talking about missing fields or something like a 404 or 500?

Sorry for the 100 questions, just needs some more information to help troubleshoot.

Please let me know what you find!

    Cheers,

Hi Shane, the error happens when posting a new topic in the discussion forum. More specifically, the issue is caused by entering invalid data into the form. For example, leaving out the title would normally show a message to the user about missing fields. Instead, the resulting page shows {forums} on a blank page.

Again, this is only the case when running the forums through the EE templates.

FYI - I do have safecracker installed, but I have disabled it and am still experiencing this issue.

    Hey Maheradmin,

What does your template code look like? It should have only {exp:forum} in it.

The templates in the forum theme can use ExpressionEngine tags. But the template you are running the Forums can only have {exp:forum}.

    Please let me know.

    Cheers,

Yep, just the {exp:forum} tag. I just tried this on a clean install and am not experiencing the same issue. Looking into extensions now.

    Problem solved.

I’m saving templates as files and didn’t notice that there was a template in the site template folder called ‘forums’. This was intercepting the post to the actual ‘forums/index’ template group.

    Thanks for your help!
