    Hi Guys,

We are creating a copy of an existing EE site on a new server for a client.

We have followed the steps here.

All seemed to work fine, we migrated the DB and base files. I was able to log into the CP fine.

Once in the CP, I can see the Channels, the channel groups, channel entries etc. However I can’t see the templates or the images we previously uploaded. It seems they either didn’t come across in the migration or not accessible - path might be incorrect?

Would you advise a fresh migration of the DB again? Or would this be a path setting somewhere?

    Thanks

    Aidan

Sorry, I just sync’d the file upload folder and the images appear now in the File Uplaod section however I still can’t see my templates in Template Manager. I have updated all system paths as per the link in the original post

    Hey Aidan,

I am sorry to hear you are running into this last snag here.

Did you sync the templates as well? If you did, are they still not showing up? Check the file perms as well on the directory.

Let me know if you have tried these two things.

    Cheers,

    Hi Shane,

Thanks for the response. When I click into “Template Manager”, I click the Sync Templates option and I get the following message

No valid templates exist. You must have at least one template flagged to save as a text file.

I assume so I need to create copies of the templates from the original installation and then copy these txt files over to the .. system > expressionengine > Templates Folder on the new server?

aidan1234, did you already copy the template files? If you have, make sure the permissions are set correctly or else they won’t show up.

We just made a copy of the DB and the EE source files and copied them across. I didn’t take any specific actions with regard backing up the existing templates on the old installation (this installtion is still running at the moment).

As a test I completed the following steps
    - Logged into the old installation and changed the Global Template preferences to allow templates to be saved as files
    - I then clicked into Template Preferences Manager
    - I tried to set the “Save Template as File” permission to “Yes” on one test template but I got an error stating:

Note: Allowing PHP in templates has security implications. Please consult the documentation.

Apoligies if these are basic queries, I am just a little unsure of the process when it comes to migrating templates

    Hello Aiden,

You will need to copy the template over to the new site and drop them in the same folder as the other server. This is defined in the Control Panel under Global Template Preferences as “Basepath to Template File Directory”.

Each entry should already have “Save Template as File” already checked, but you might want to double check that. No pun intended. If they are not checked, then syncing templates will not work.

Are you sure the templates are saved as files? They are not the default entries stored in the DB? The process you show in the most recent post makes me think that you were not saving templates as files before.

When you said “However I can’t see the templates or the images we previously uploaded.” in your first post, were you talking about templates as files or were you referring to something else?

    Let me know.

    Cheers,

    Hi Shane,

Got it working today, thanks for the help! My path in the template perferences needed to be corrected which them allowed me copy them over to the new installation.

We can close this thread, thanks again
