We’re using the built-in Search module on a client’s site and it seems as though it’s not searching category names. We’re using the search for a business directory that’s organized by categories. If a visitor searched for ‘insurance’, for example, only entries with ‘insurance’ in them are returned, when in reality there are a lot of entries in an ‘insurance’ category that we’d like returned as well. Is this possible with the built-in module? If not, are there any others that will do this (Super Search, maybe)?

    Hello ShawnCBerg,

Thank you for posting your question.

The search form that comes with ExpressionEngine is not as robust as an Add-On like Super Search. It is pretty basic. So the answer is no, you will not get results in the insurance category unless the entry has the word insurance in it.

I believe that with Super Search this is possible, but to be sure you can ask on their forums.

You might also consider making a Feature Request. I am sure you are not the only one that would like to see the simple search improved a bit.

    I hope this helps.

Is there anything else I can help you with?

    Cheers,

Thanks, Shane! I was aware of Super Search and have posted in their forum to see if their product would help. I’ve also submitted a feature request here as I think this would definitely be helpful for others.

    Thanks for responding 😊
