    hi

i get a problem, when i try to view mi page the browser show me the next message:

    Content encoding error
The page you are trying to view can not be shown because it uses a compression format invalid or unsupported. Contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem.

    Hi Federacafe,

I’m sorry that you are experiencing this problem. What version of ExpressionEngine are you using? Does this error message appear on all browsers? Are you using any sort of compression on your site? Have you contacted your host to see if they have changed anything recently that may be causing this error?

Am moving this thread from “pre-sales” to technical support

    Hi Federacafe,

I’ve been great, thanks for asking. I’d like you to go to admin > system administration > output and debugging and confirm that enable GZIP Output is turned off.

I had an issue similar to this on a development site I was working on and I see that turning off GZIP is a common remedy. Can you explain what the disadvantage of disabling this feature is, especially on a production site? We are trying to optimize our site as much as possible, but it seems like to use many add-on you need to disable this feature.

In our case turning on the Image Resizer add-on (http://devot-ee.com/add-ons/image-sizer) caused the problem. I believe it may be due to how the plug-in passes back the output to EE. This add-on (http://devot-ee.com/add-ons/support/ce-cache/viewthread/3459) looks like it had a similar issue until it was modified to pass the output back to EE’s output handler rather than output directly.

Ok, looks like I was right and wrong about the issue causing these error messages. Looks like if you have GZIP turned on and the output path for writing the Image Resizer cache files is invalid or has permissions issues you get these errors. So tuning it off allows the page to load with errors. Once you have fixed the path permissions issues, then you can re-enable the GZIP setting and all should work fine.
