I am rolling out my first EE site this week, and I’ve gone through and created all channel entries for the site users to update & edit. In attempting to train the users, I created descriptive Full Channel Name (e.g. [ABOUT US] Intro Text), thinking that this would be how the users would see each channel entry. Then I can just give them edit ability to the Channel entries and I won’t have to enter the content, etc.
Well its working, sorta. But either I’m not doing this right or missing something, or there is a flaw to the workflow in EE here. When I give them access to the ‘Edit Channel Entries’ page via CP, they see all the channel entries just fine. But the list shows the Title as they key field. That title is actual data being displayed, not metadata describing what the field is for.
I think that may be confusing. The end users could put anything in the Title (which I then use as a Hx tag on the page), and the titles may not make sense with the field context. For example, if I have a Contact Us page that is titled “We are here 24/7” which I want to show as the title to the page, and I want to give the users the ability to edit the text that follows as a channel entry, I want this to show with the field title I’ve created it with (e.g. [CONTACT US] Intro Text). Otherwise they see “We are here 24/7” and don’t know what that is for.
Is there something I am missing, or can this be changed? If not, I guess I’m not getting this for some reason.
