URLs work until I set 404

    I have a core 2.4.0 install with no add-ons.

I have setup the site and I like the URL structure. It works great until I set the 404 template that is.

    I have:

    index.php/category_url_title/url_title

    For example:

    index.php/cars/my-car-entry

    I achieve this using:

    <a href="http://{title_permalink={category_url_title}}">{title}</a>

I am only using the site’s main index.html template and I’m pretty sure this is why my setup even works. Since there isn’t an actual template_group/template it is in essence an actual 404 even though it does work the way I want according to this:

Note: If you choose ‘None’, your default channel will be shown when an invalid URL is requested.

Is there away to go about this where I don’t have a template_group/template structure and not get 404s everywhere when 404 template is set?

    Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! I tried Freebie and even Freeway though, they didn’t work.

I’ve decided that I don’t need a 404 template as this is a special site. If someone wants to respond feel free though, EE support, please don’t waste your time on this.

    Hi, Natetronn -

The 404 setting specifically tells EE to look for an existing, valid Template Group in segment 2.  You have chosen to amend how EE’s default category system works so the 404s will fail for you in this case.

Does that help to answer your question on why this is happening?

    Hi Lisa!

Yes that’s kind of what I was thinking was happening and was wondering if there was a work around or not.

This theme isn’t really for production ready websites so, that’s why I decided I didn’t need to worry about the 404 even though, I included it’s template.

    Thanks 😊
