    Hi,

Just wanted to make sure my permissions look good:

    “uploads” folder: 755
    My “default” upload directory: 755
    “_thumbs”: 755
    “cache”: 755

    Here’s where I’m a bit confused:

Uploaded images are a combination of 644 and 777.

When I try to change the permissions of all files to 644, I get an error.

What’s should the permissions be for uploaded files (do cache and _thumbs get different permissions because they are generated by EE?)

    Thanks!
    Micky

    Hello Micky,

Hope your having a great day!

The uploaded files should be 666, which means they are readable and writable by Owner, Group, and World. 4 only gets you readable, a 2 gets you only writable, but 4+2=6 which is readable + writable.

Cache and _thumbs are created by ExpressionEngine.

Per our User Guide, go ahead and change the following folders to 777.

    /system/expressionengine/cache/
    /images/avatars/uploads/
    /images/captchas/
    /images/member_photos/
    /images/pm_attachments/
    /images/signature_attachments/
    /images/uploads/

    I hope this helps!

    Cheers,
