I am trying to create “Tell-A-Friend” Forms for various events at our church.  However, when i paste the code that is supplied that I assume should just work as long as the plugins are installed, The form doesn’t have any function at all.

I would appreciate any help I can get on this.

    Thanks!

    Hello Phoenix First,

I am sorry to hear you are running into this hiccup.

Are you sure the email module is installed? We should not be seeing those tags.

Can you also paste in your template code as is?

It’s probably just that the Add-On is not installed as the tags are not being rendered.

Let me know how that goes.

    Cheers,

    Hello Phoenix First,

You are correct, it’s included and is listed under modules.

Please check Add-Ons->Modules and look for Email. Is it installed?

    Cheers,

    Hello Phoenix First,

Okay, the tell a friend form is a part of that module, so you should have it.

Can you send me a screenshot of the modules page?

What version is this? Is this a commercial install?

    Let me know!

    Cheers,

    Phoenix first,

ExpressionEngine 2.1.1 is quite old at this point. The latest version of ExpressionEngine is 2.4.0 and there have been many bug fixes and improvements since 2.1.1 came out. If possible I’d like you to upgrade to 2.4.0.

I will be backing up the site today and hopefully updating tonight.  We’ll see what happens after that.

Ok.  So i’ve been somewhat hesetant to do this upgrade because I’m not sure I have everything i need.  I have backed up everything (files & database), However, i’m not finding any file called admin.php,  I have set aside all the rest of the files that need to be replaced after the update.  Where would I find admin.php? (sorry, i’m new to this whole ExpressionEngine thing).

    Hi Pheonix First,

admin.php was added in a version after the one you currently have. In this case all you need to do is add admin.php to your site root after opening it up and setting the system path as you have it in index.php.

You should be good to go on the upgrade at this point. Keep me posted on your progress.

Was finally able to update our site.  However.. now the login screen doesn’t have any style.. and the top menu links in the control panel once logged in don’t work (no drop down and they are just dead links) the front end of our site appears fine but the control panel seems very broken.

    Hello Phoenix First,

It sounds like your themes may not be working. Can you try uploading the themes folder again or checking the permissions? The themes folder is where you will find images and CSS and such, which sounds like what is going on here.

Can you check that out and let me know?

    Cheers,
