Hi there hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this perplexing problem.

A few weeks ago I finished an EE build and the client was happy everything was working fine and quick. Then unfortunately about a week and a half later the site has suddenly become very slow in loading (above 20seconds). It also takes just as long to get into the Control Panel log in screen.

Unsurprisingly the hosting company say it’s not them and everything is working fine at their end.

The site is running EE v2.3.1
Hosted on Linux running php version 5.3.6 and MySql 5

I know about optimising templates etc, but why would it be fine one week and then grind to a halt the next?
    Any ideas?

    Thanks
    Ian

    Hello colesi,

I am sorry to hear you are running into this problem.

It’s difficult to know what might be slowing things down, but we will get to the bottom of this for you. I can understand how frustrating it is to have the site work a few weeks ago just fine and then have it slow down so drastically.

Would you mind taking a look here and reading over some of the points made? One tool that will help us figure this out is the Output Profiler. The output should be very insightful. Look for how many queries are being run and the time it takes for them to be executed.

It could be that there are issues with the server, like possibly MySQL. We will need access to the server to determine performance issues there. Do you have shell/terminal access to the web server? We might catch something that your hosting provider missed.

The article I link to covers some really good points.

Let me know what you find. I look forward to solving this with you.

    Cheers,

    Hi Shane

Thanks so much for your reply, it’s true what people say about the community around EE being great!
Sorry for my slack reply was wiped out in bed with a bug for the past few days.

Turns out the client pushed the hosting company a couple of times, prompting a senior engineer to get involved and surprise, surprise they do have a problem with their database server! So they’re looking into it now and hopefully going to resolve it soon.

    Thanks again for you help.
